On the day of the devastating earthquake in Turkiye, a report was spread on social media that there would be a strong earthquake in Baku. Rubin Burrell, an alleged American expert and famous geologist, predicted that there would be a strong earthquake in the center of Baku and Turkiye. The forecast's publication in the well-known Daily Express made it widespread: "Geological maps and the survey of the movement of the Earth's plates at the same time as the earthquake in Turkey today show that the Baku fault has been activated, which can produce an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.9."
Fakt Yoxla Lab. investigated whether the news is true or not and from which source it was spread for the first time.
1) No such article was found on the website of Daily Express.
2) "Rubin Burrell, an American geologist" allegedly known for his scientific articles and statements to the media, was not found
3) Harvey Gavin, listed as the author of the article, did indeed write articles for the Daily Express. But Gavin's last post on this site was published three years ago.
Currently, he is the head of media and communications at Transparency International UK.
The specialist in the photo is not the "American geologist Rubin Burrell" mentioned in the news. The person we see in the photo is Birger Kollmeier, professor of the Institute of Physics of the University of Oldenburg, a hearing researcher, German by nationality. His current research focuses on the basic understanding of the auditory system, the development of audiometric measurement methods, and rehabilitation with hearing aids. That is, it has nothing to do with geology.
And now, about where and by whom this fake news was first leaked to the media.
For the first time, this fake information was spread through the Telegram channel "Iranian Journalist's Diary" managed by Khayal Muazzin, an Iranian journalist, Russian correspondent of Tehran's official news agency IRNA, and an employee of the IRGC.
Khayal Muazzin is one of the prominent participants in the campaign against Azerbaijan. There are enough sources on the Internet about this and it is easy to see this attitude in his statements.
Armenian sources and Azerbaijani-language telegram channels controlled from Tehran also shared the fake news of Muazzin.
It is a normal thing that Khayal Muazzin, Armenians and traitors share this; they have already directed all their forces against Azerbaijan, and keeping the population in tension there and creating artificial fear is the main line of their activities.
What is puzzling here is that only one of the media representatives in Azerbaijan - the Khural website - shared this information as it is. Let's remember that the head of the Khural website is currently in prison, and his friend Malahat (Kisuri) Zeynalli manages the website. Why would this site share such blatantly fake news?
Conclusion:
♦ The alleged American specialist and famous geologist Rubin Burrell's prediction that there will be a strong earthquake in the center of Baku as in Turkiye is fake news;
♦There is no famous American geologist named Rubin Burrell;
♦Harvey Gavin, who is named as the author of the article, has not worked for Daily Express for nearly three years;
♦The specialist in the photo is not the "American geologist Rubin Burrell", but Birger Kollmeier, a professor at the Institute of Physics of the University of Oldenburg;
♦For the first time, the fake information was spread by the "Iranian Journalist's Diary" telegram channel managed by Khayal Muazzin, an Iranian journalist, the Russian correspondent of Tehran's official IRNA news agency, and an employee of the IRGC.
